RAW MATERIAL AREA NETWORK
Independence in material area development is the key differentiator for enterprises’ success in global
integration.
W
ith this perception, in recent years, TTC Bien Hoa has
paid special attention to the development of clean
material areas by converting traditional farming
into organic farming and establishing systematic production
management. The goal is to achieve sustainability by preserving
and strengthening the health of the argo-ecosystem in a
variety of areas, including biodiversity, biological life cycles, and
biological productivity.
The challenging FY 2019-2020 was followed by another year
of turbulence as COVID-19 and policy changes leading to
macro volatility shocking the Sugar industry. Despite such
hardship, TTC Bien Hoa’s total material areas in Vietnam, Laos,
and Cambodia continued to expand and reached nearly
66,000 ha, while CCS and cane yield increased by 3% and 5%,
respectively.

AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION CAPACITY

SOLUTIONS ON WATER SOLUTIONS ON LAND
Acknowledging the importance of water for
sugarcane growth to obtain maximum yield,
TTC Bien Hoa brings irrigation into sharp focus.
Besides advanced methods such as Center Pivot
and drip irrigation at large farms, TTC Bien Hoa
also provides nancial assistance to farmers in
order to encourage them to choose the best
irrigation systems for their location. This could
include surface furrow irrigation, sprinkler
irrigation, and ood irrigation, etc. The yield of
properly irrigated areas can be 14-33% higher
than those of improperly irrigated or rainfed
areas. Furthermore, farmers can proactively
irrigate, thus better adapt to sporadic
climate-related events.
Soil fertility, as the foundation of agriculture, is
an important factor to improve productivity
and ensure sustainable development. With this
in mind, TTC Bien Hoa decided to establish the
Soil Testing Laboratory in TTC Sugarcane
Research and Development Center (SRDC),
making it one of the few private facilities in
Vietnam that conduct in-depth soil research.
At TTC Bien Hoa, soil testing is constantly
monitored and strictly follows the standards
for acceptable concentrations of substances.
Its ndings can provide useful recommendations
for each particular eld.

SOLUTION ON MONITORING AND MANAGEMENT
To eectively cultivate an area of approximately 66,000 ha,
the management system must prove its worth. Hence,
besides mechanization, TTC Bien Hoa monitors crop health
with drones to detect, at an early stage, cane low-density, pest
attacks or waterlogged areas, ect. giving itself an edge over
traditional monitoring methods. The collected data is stored
and managed by the Farmer Relationship Management (FRM)
system. TTC Bien Hoa’s management team then uses this
database to forecast output, productivity, farming eciency,
pest control and make more informed and timely decisions.
Recommendations are also quickly sent to farmers via the SMS
system. Over the long run, TTC Bien Hoa plans to aggregate
source data into data centers to improve data accuracy and
accelerate data transmission.
TTC Bien Hoa units, such as TTCAD - which specializes in
microbial fertilizer manufacturing - and SRDC, have introduced
highly applicable products: organic microbial fertilizers
(Mixa, Bela...) and bio-products (Root Booster, Grow Booster,
CCS Booster, Amino Acid, Bio-team, etc.). The Company’s
products benet farmers in a variety of ways, including providing
nutrients for the sugarcane, improving soil microbes,
stimulating root growth and nutrient absorption, and
maximizing growth rate, thereby achieving high productivity
and CCS.
TTC Bien Hoa also encourages farmers to use short-term crop
rotation and intercropping in sugarcane elds as approaches
to sustainable land management. According to the study,
legume intercropping and crop rotation produced equivalent
results to using 5 tons/ha and 15.5 tons of organic fertilizer/ha
respectively, increasing prots by VND15-20 million/ha.

SOLUTIONS ON SUGARCANE VARIETIES SOLUTION ON FARMING SCALE
Since its inception, TTC Bien Hoa’s core operation has been the research and
development of sugarcane varieties. SRDC is currently responsible for researching
and introducing F3-generation varieties to Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
This variety improves propagation productivity by 20-30% while reducing production
costs thanks to higher ratoon retention. Furthermore, sugarcane ratooning has
a propagation coecient of 1:30, which is much higher than the conventional
method, indicating a turning point in closed sugarcane propagation.
To achieve optimization of techniques
and cost-ecient production, farming
scale is required as one of the
fundamental factors. Large farms and
synchronized systems are the only
places to apply advanced technologies
and mechanical engineering to best
advantage. For this reason, TTC Bien Hoa
has re-planned and re-organized the
elds over the years, including merging
small farms into larger ones, planning
and partitioning the elds based
on crop season, deploying uniform
farming protocols, and implementing
technology in management.
This aims to sustain and develop material areas while scaling up the farming areas.
TTC Bien Hoa also adopts new support policies to incentivize and help farmers stay
in the business and gain protability from the sugarcane.
Combined with operational
improvement, digital solutions are
gradually implemented and integrated
into agricultural management systems
through the use of unmanned
equipment in monitoring elds. GPS
is also used to manage harvesters’
transportation and create digital maps of
the material areas for tracking location of
the vehicles. Additionally, TTC Bien Hoa
is developing an Agriculture App with
many useful features such as chatbox,
recommendation, technical advice,
weather forecast, investment and
purchase policies. This app is designed
to improve communication between
Sugarcane growers and Agricultural
extension ocers.

In recent years, Vietnam Sugar industry has been caught
in an agonizing dilemma caused by the industry’s cycle,
or lower sugarcane and Sugar prices - the reason for
Farmers’ shift of crops. TTC Bien Hoa quickly recognized
that the conventional sugarcane processing method was
no longer relevant for the future. Thus, over the last few
years, TTC Bien Hoa has concentrated its efforts on product
updates, increasing sugarcane refining technology
adoption, and optimizing the Sugarcane Value Chain. This
aims to produce high-quality, low-cost products, enhance
domestic and international competitiveness, and provide
Farmers with a stable income and a long-term relationship
with the company.
I
n major Sugar-producing countries, the Sugar portfolio consists of
60% Sugar products and 40% by-products. However, factories in
Vietnam prioritize Sugar products, resulting in high production costs
and a lack of competitiveness in comparison to other major players in
Brazil, India, China, and our closest neighbor, Thailand. Sugarcane is
used in a multitude of forms. Apart from its primary products, sugarcane
is a direct or indirect raw material for a variety of industries, including
wine, paper, plywood, pharmaceuticals, and electricity generated by
bagasse; animal feed, fertilizers made from sugarcane leaves and tops,
lter cake, and boiler ash; and biofuel, alcohol, acetone solvents, yeast,
citric acid, lactic acid, and glycerin… (all of these chemicals are made
from molasse). When properly utilized, sugarcane by-products can be
worth three to four times as much as the primary product. To increase
the value of sugarcane production, restructuring the Sugar processing
industry through product diversication and value chain optimization
appears to be a prominent on-demand trend these days.

In the last FY, TTC Bien Hoa, Vietnam’s leading Sugar
company in terms of market share and product portfolio,
actively invested in a multitude of projects to increase by-
product shares, diversify the sugarcane value chain and
improve profits. One of TTC’s greatest achievements was
the Canned sugarcane juice Míaha - 100% natural juice
available in 3 tasty mixed flavors: Kumquat sugarcane,
Peach sugarcane and Apple sugarcane. This product is made
entirely of sugarcane with the addition of microminerals,
preserves valuable nutrients of the sugarcane, especially
flavonoid - a useful adjuvant to prevent oxidative stress,
delay aging and improve overall health.

ORGANIC MICROBIAL FERTILIZER
Along with the 34,000 tons per year organic microbial
fertilizer factory in Tay Ninh, TTC Bien Hoa has begun
construction on two new microbial fertilizer factories in
Lao and TTCS Gia Lai, totaling approximately VND60 billion.
Each factory, which is expected to have a capacity of
34,000 tons per year, will initiate operations in November
2021 to supply organic microbial fertilizer and organic
fertilizer to sugarcane raw materials and farmers for the
upcoming crop year. This contributes to the transformation
of Vietnamese farmers’ conventional farming practices,
the replenishment of soil, the reduction of production
costs, and the improvement of the quality of Vietnamese
agricultural products.
TTC Bien Hoa’s organic microbial fertilizers are
generated from Sugar industry’s waste such as ash,
pressmud, coarse sludge, and suitable for:
• Industrial crops: sugarcane, coee plant, rubber plant,
pepper, tea, peanut, soybean, etc.
• Food crops: rice, corn, cassava, etc.
• Vegetables: leafy greens, tomato, cabbage, kohlrabi, etc.
• Fruit trees.
